About Leigh Ann
Leigh Ann Coble discovered
her passion for horses 17 years
ago and continues to put her heart into her horses and students daily. She grew
up riding, learning the basics of care and that riding horses is a privilege
that requires commitment and hard work. Later she spent many years on the ‘A’
circuit fine tuning her riding skills. Competing in Raleigh NC, Greensboro NC,
Blowing Rock NC, Culpepper VA, and an assortment of other show grounds, she
proved successful on her favorite mount, Wonder.
Leigh Ann graduated from
Greensboro College with a degree in psychology. Currently she works one day a
week at The Children’s Home teaching therapeutic riding, incorporating
metaphorical learning and emotional growth facilitated by horses. Back at Wonder’s
Run, she spends her days teaching a wide age range of students, training
horses, or preparing to go to shows.
The Story of Wonder
When Leigh Ann was 13 years old, she
sold her beloved pony to take on a ‘project’ horse. For no good reason she
purchased a very green, 3 year old thoroughbred mare. After multiple falls and
months of frustration, during which she almost sold the horse and quit riding, Wonder
became her best friend. Wonder started her career as a hunter at schooling
shows and then moved her way into jumpers. This transition was made possible by
the instruction of Anne Morgan, Leigh Ann’s trainer at the time. This
phenomenal mare proved to be truly amazing. At only 15.3 hands, she could jump
the moon and could do it faster than most. She won at almost every show and
loved her job.
Wonder is now retired and lives
very comfortably at her farm Wonder’s Run, where she gets chiropractic care,
massages, treats and anything else she wishes. “Attached at the withers,” Leigh
Ann and Wonder spend time together daily reminiscing about old times or simply
enjoying each other’s company. Wonder taught Leigh Ann many life lessons and is
a living example of confidence, understanding, trust, and spirituality and
continues to bring joy to everyone around her.
